About Us

The Justin Slade Youth Foundation (JSYF) is a dedicated, youth-focused non-profit organization committed to supporting and uplifting young people aged 12 to 17 within our community. We recognize that these years are full of important decisions and self-discovery, and we are here to guide youth toward making positive life choices while encouraging them to express themselves in healthy and meaningful ways. By providing a safe, welcoming space and a variety of opportunities, we aim to build confidence, creativity, and resilience in every young person we serve. At JSYF, we believe that every youth deserves the chance to thrive, grow, and create a strong foundation for their future.

At JSYF, our values shape everything we do. We believe that:

  • Empowered youth make better choices. When young people feel supported, heard, and confident, they’re more likely to make positive decisions for their future.

  • Every opportunity begins with an open door. We create safe, welcoming spaces where youth feel free to explore, grow, and take on new challenges.

  • Respect is the root of a healthy community. When youth learn to respect themselves and others, it fosters stronger relationships and a more connected, positive environment for everyone

Our Mission

What We Do

Located inside the Haxton Centre at Borealis Park, The Dugout is our daily drop-in center — a safe, clean, and drug-free space where youth can hang out, be themselves, and connect with others. Open seven days a week and completely free to access, The Dugout offers a fun, relaxed environment with something for everyone.

Whether you’re looking to unwind or explore new interests, youth can enjoy a wide range of activities, including:

  • Pool and foosball

  • Video games and movie nights

  • Arts and crafts

  • Creative writing sessions

  • Resume help and career-building resources

  • Workshops on wellness, life skills, and personal development

The Dugout is more than a place — it’s a community.
It’s where youth are welcomed, valued, and supported. Our dedicated youth workers are always present to connect with each individual, building strong, trusting relationships that go beyond the surface. Whether it’s through a conversation, a shared activity, or simply being there to listen, we aim to provide the kind of encouragement and guidance that helps young people find their path and move forward with confidence.

At The Dugout, every youth matters — and every visit is a step toward a brighter, more empowered future.
